Rice predominates: Rice is a staple in Maharashtra cuisine and forms the base of many dishes. Varan Bhat (rice with corn soup) is a common comfort food enjoyed daily by the locals. You can't talk about Maharashtra food without mentioning rice. It's like the canvas for most meals.
